HP iPAQ 214 Enterprise

HP iPAQ 214 Enterprise

Lately I have come to the conclusion that I need a PDA upgrade from my old Dell Axim. These days it seems that the only devices running Windows Mobile are smart phones, but I have never bought into the smart phone concept because:

  1. The screens are too small to make them a viable PDA, especially for word processing and spreadsheets, and watching a DivX video is just painful.
  2. The screens are too big to make them a viable, portable, comfortable to use mobile phone. I have simple requirements for a mobile (calls, SMS, the occasionally photos), so a large screen is not required, in fact it is deeply undesirable for me.

Smart phones are a perfect example in my opinion of technology convergence gone wrong: I would like a separate phone and PDA thanks all the same, and I already have a separate, weather-proof GPS from Garmin that I use for hiking, so I don't need that on my phone either!

Happily HP are one of the few companies out there that are still making dedicate PDAs, with their long running iPAQ series. I really like the look of this model, which is looking likely to be my next tech purchase:
